Job description:

We are looking for a dynamic and passionate Project and Commissioning Engineer to join our growing team. Become part of our pioneering team and help us deliver our cutting edge solutions and meet the company’s engineering objectives.

The role is partially home-based or in Medway, Kent with 85% UK and international travel.

Reporting to the Projects & Process Manager, you will manage:

  • Contract Installation on any given Carbon8 project that may be grouped by location, client service, or scale.

  • Project planning, cost management, financial reporting, mobilisation, installation, and commissioning of plants

  • Manage site H&S risk assessments

Responsibilities

The Projects and Commissioning Engineer’s responsibilities will include the on-time, on-budget delivery of successful projects including but not necessarily limited to:

  • Responsible for the safe installation of projects, which includes carrying out commissioning through to client handover

  • Regular communication with clients, contractors, and key stakeholders

  • Monitoring of site progress, making decisions, reporting and problem solving

  • Responsible for compliance with H&S in cooperation with the Project and Process Manager, Commercial Manager, and appropriate persons whilst on client site

  • Formal and informal reporting to clients, plus internal reporting and communication of project execution and adherence to budgets to key stakeholders

  • Writing SOPs and maintenance documents in time for client handover

  • The identification – and implementation – of improvements in the Company’s processes and procedures, engaging regularly in continuous improvements

Required and preferred skills

The successful Projects and Commissioning Engineer will be able to demonstrate the following skills and qualities:

  • Good communicator, both written and verbal (Multilingual skills would be advantageous)

  • Sound judgement skills and the ability to take a pragmatic approach

  • Experience in project and process engineering, ideally with a mechanical or electrical bias

  • Willingness to be innovative and work proactively, with strong organisational skills including the ability to plan, prioritise, and organise various tasks at the same time

  • Must have a flexible approach to work and be contactable out of hours

  • Must have the ability to make on the spot decisions

  • Must be comfortable with a large amount of UK and international travel – around 85% of the working year

In addition we expect the Project and Commissioning Engineer to have achieved or have experience/knowledge in most of the following:

  • A minimum of an HNC in an engineering discipline (Bachelor’s degree or higher is preferred)

  • A relevant H&S qualification

  • Competent/experienced with heavy machinery

  • A general knowledge of chemical processes/carbon capture

  • Knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic systems

  • Good understanding of fluid dynamics and powder flow

  • Understanding of H&S practices

  • Understanding of plant control systems and HMI usage

  • Experience within EfW/Biomass and Aggregate plants

  • Experience with project/equipment commissioning

  • Experience with contract management

  • Experience with using CAD

  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office including Visio and Project

  • Ability to work well within a tight knit team

  • Be self motivated

  • Show desire to learn and develop

  • Be trustworthy and self-disciplined
