Industries

Carbon8 works with hard-to-abate sectors to help them decarbonise and transition to a more circular operation.

Hard to abate sectors account for 20% of global emissions are also significant contributors to the production of industrial residues, often destined for landfill. At Carbon8, we understand how different industrial processes lead to various outputs and how they can be efficiently captured, combined and reused.

INDUSTRIES WE WORK WITH

  • Energy from waste

Ashes produced from incinerator facilities contain calcium and magnesium compounds which react with CO₂. The ACT process also stabilises the heavy metals and the process has achieved End-of-Waste status England for EfW fly ash.

  • Biomass

The ashes produced from biomass combustion are a large waste problem for operators and are generally piled and stored. Our technology can treat the ash and turn it into a fertiliser or lightweight building aggregate with up to 30% CO₂ uptake.

  • Cement

The cement industry accounts for 8% of global emissions is facing an increasing challenge of cement bypass dust (CBD) and cement kiln dust (CKD). CBD is particularly effective with our solutions, as it can have a CO₂ uptake of > 30%.

  • Steel

For each tonne of steel produced, there is between 0.1 – 0.3 tonnes of slag produced. While some slag has useful application, with over two billion tonnes of slag produced globally each year, it represents a significant waste problem. Our technology can transform this waste into a valuable aggregate and act as a significant carbon sink.

  • Pulp and Paper

The ashes produced from biomass boilers on paper and pulp mills are well suited to our technology due to the high volumes of residual calcium carried over from the paper production process.
